Student Edition - OnTrack Devotions

OTD Student EditionThe original OnTrack Devotional developed by Dwight E. Peterson to develop the skill and discipline of effective daily devotions in his own student ministry, the OTD Student Edition promotes and teaches the building blocks of inductive Bible Study, building invaluable skill for a lifetime of personal spiritual growth.

Why OTD? While there are a lot of great devotionals available for teens, most of them do the thinking for the reader. OTD's daily devotional thought points the reader in a direction of discovery and then sets them loose through a passage of scripture. Follow-up questions then walk the reader through the four basic steps of Bible Study... Observation, Interpretation, Application and Implementation. Repeating this process daily, students gain skill and confidence in their capacity to read, understand and apply the Word of God in their daily lives, an investment that will pay dividends throughout their lives and into eternity.

Is it relevant? Bible Study is a challenge for students. There are a lot of disconnects in their cultural grid that many devotionals tackle with great graphics and devotional thoughts by famous Christians. We like those things too. At the end of the day, though, the Bible is always relevant. When students are able to discover the truth of the Word for themselves, the relevance is released in all its glory in their hearts, their minds and their lives. Our culture trains young minds to depend on others (media, teachers, etc...) to translate truth into their understanding for them. Freedom and relevance come from learning how to find real truth for themselves in the Word of God.

Is it hard? Anything worth doing takes at least a little effort. To facilitate the growth process, OTD engages students at four progressive levels, all rolled into one devotional. For instance, Level 1 students may read the key verse for the day (instead of the whole passage) and the devotional thought, then answer the observation question. Level 4 students will read the devotional thought and the whole passage, then answer all of the questions. Levels 2 and 3 approaches will be steps in between. This allows a student ministry, a family or a small group to connect around the same study with students at various levels of skill and growth. One tool engages and facilitates growth for the whole group while meeting them where they are at.

We love investing in students and we would love to invest with you in your own life or the lives of those you impact. Begin today a journey that will last a lifetime and will change your life forever.
