WILD LevelsThe W.I.L.D. curriculum delivers four distinct and progressive levels of learning and leadership tools as they relate to the spiritual development and leadership processes. We use a standard progression of evaluation to measure the level of competency achieved in each outcome. They are as follows:

Level 1: The Learning Process: Anchored by the Learning Cycle and the Transformation Model, the Level 1 curriculum is specifically targeted to grow and hone one's eyes and ears for the work of God in one's own spiritual development and learning processes. The effective leader must first be an active learner.

Level 2: Personal Discipleship: In Level 2, the curriculum kicks the Learning Cycle up a notch into what we call the Ministry Cycle. This becomes a model for using the same core process as a tool for ministry that is not role-based and is on an individual (as opposed to group) level. The effective leader must first learn to invest their learning in others without the leverage of a formal role. Also includes FORMS (intentional conversation) and OIC (effective exhortation).

Level 3: Role-Based Discipleship: The Level 3 curriculum builds a philosophy of role-based leadership on the concept of enabling and growing effective Level 2 leaders. It introduces the Shepherding Cycle and CAST (integrative Bible study) while targeting increased skill with FORMS and OIC. In W.I.L.D. we also introduce the extra dimension of responsibility at the group level for spiritual, and sometimes physical, leadership. The effective leader must learn to intentionally develop next-generation leaders, not just followers of an agenda.

Level 4: Mentoring Ministry: At Level 4, the primary aim is to develop, mobilize and mentor Level 3 leaders. This concept of mobilization sets itself apart from the management of multiple tiers of organizational bureaucracy. Our focus is on a model of multi-level ministry development that seeks to launch people who will launch others into productive ministry by embedding the approach into the culture of their organization.

WILD Group"I believe that this is what is needed in the lives of men and women today. A realistic, full experience with God that goes so much farther than most "emotional" experiences that we have today. The wilderness setting has a 'nowhere to hide' process that allows the person to face God, on His terms."

Dave, Business Professional

"I believe the value of wilderness is best seen in its impact on the faculty who attend and then on the students… I have seen the trips give the various teachers and administrators… the motivation and ministry tools that they were lacking to help them become true disciplers. I would encourage any principal or teacher… to make these trips a regular part of their school ministry."
Phil, High School Administrator

"I have learned that you can say what you want, but you will always behave what you are. I am reminded time and time again of my own insufficiency and of God's sovereignty."
Amy, Student

PortageAlgonquin Provincial Park is one of the largest and oldest wilderness parks in Ontario. It is well-managed and maintained by the Provincial Park Service and is held by many to be the greatest canoe tripping location in the world, as evidenced by a continual flow of international visitors. At half the size of New Hampshire, it boasts hundreds of miles of canoe routes, each with its own personality, length and degree of physical difficulty. Over the years, we have found the park to be an optimal wilderness environment for the type of learning we pursue. The options are innumerable, making it easy to create a unique experience to fit the specific needs of each group.

In 2010, Pilgrimage will open a new private base camp near the town of Kearney, Ontario, just outside the southwest corner of Algonquin. Pre-trip and post-trip instruction, programming and lodging for W.I.L.D. are split between the base camp facility and the community center in Emsdale, just down the road. The city of Huntsville is about 25 minutes to the south on Hwy 11 and boasts a bunch of restaurants (from fast food to gourmet), plenty of gas stations and even a Walmart.

In the near future, we may schedule Wilderness Institute events in other domestic or international locations. For now, Algonquin provides the optimal mix necessary for the focused in-process learning inherent in W.I.L.D.
